The Game She lives among two cats Chihuahua puppy, Invader and pest.
They bully her, growling And slapping with sharp claws, She’s too fast to hit.
She wants to play, teasing The cats gently. Their hearts are stone.
They block doorways, she Offers toys, trembling Eager to play. They ignore.
I give the pup water, The cats drink, Trying to drain every drop
Cats sleep on the pup’s papers, Growling when she needs to go. She learned to go outside.
When I leave, noses touch Growling stops, peace reigns Until their audience returns.

Killer came to live with us as a two month old puppy. Her true nature remained hidden the first few days as she learned to get used to us.
Then she discovered her teeth and how useful they were. She became the terror of the household as she tried her teeth on everything in site. At first only toys and cats felt the strength of her bite, but soon she discovered human skin felt nice when she bit down on it. My husband described her as "teeth with a tail."
Of course, she always knew Daddy would accept no nonsense, and the site of him with that terrifying flyswatter was enough to cause her to snap those teeth closed. When Mommy grabbed the same flyswatter she saw it as game time, and started snapping at it. So Mommy learned to hold her head so her teeth snapped only on empty air. How she would squirm in her attempts to find a piece of skin to bite. But since no one in the house was willing to offer her a body part to chew on, she learned to be content with bones and chew toys.
That isn't to say she stopped trying altogether. Piranha was her favorite game, and she would try to get us to play often. She was clever enough to stay out of the reach of our hands when in a biting mood, because we weren't as delighted to be bitten as she was to bite us. But by getting her lots of big toys to chew, we managed to train her not to chew on us.
At five months old those terrifying days of teething have passed. She is growing into an elegant lady, terrifying only cats and rubber toys. Her legs are strong and she jumps up as if they were springs. She loves to run, and is a blur when she races by. She still races us to grab and destroy anything that drops to the floor before we have a chance to pick it up. She figures if it hits the floor, it is hers.
Now that she is almost grown up. she no longer chews on us. But she does torment our two cats, mostly because they torment her. The cats have lived here many years without a dog, and don't understand why they should share their home with this little invader. She will never be as big as they are, so they enjoy giving her a bad time. It is almost like watching two year olds fighting for attention.
Years have passed and she is now mature and a mother. Here she is with Goldie, born October 23, 2007. We love our other Chihuahuas, but Killer will always be the favorite. e are keeping Goldie, and she is even sweeter than her mother.
